Art Department

Hello!

     My name is Helen Athanas, and I am proud to be an Art Educator at Shaler Academy.

I have been teaching for 40 years, and remain passionate today about guiding learners discover the world through the creative process as I was on my first day in the classroom.

     I earned a B.A. with honors from Pratt Institute and my M.A.  from Queens Collage, City University of New York.

I hold an Art Education Certificate.

     Art is more than a subject - it is a language that allows children to communicate thoughts, feelings and ideas when words are not enough.  Through painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media, students discover not only artistic skills but also a deeper confidence in themselves.

                Welcome to the adventure of Art!

     Outside the classroom I spend time with my family and friends, travel, enjoy Museum and Botanical Garden visits.
